A single-subject architectural study chronicling construction of the iconic structure known as the “Nelum Kuluna” or “Lotus Tower,” located in Colombo, Sri Lanka, including artist manipulations (photomontage).

This recent monolith rises high above the center of the capital city, and can be seen from most points throughout the capital making a striking visual imprint on the landscape of the city.  Everpresent, the Lotus  towers above Colombo at over 350 meters high, currently the tallest self-supported structure in South Asia.  As a building, the design of this structure imposes and distinguishes itself from the surrounding vernacular architecture, with a dominant verticality. As a symbol, the lotus form elicits a trope of Buddhist and Nationalist imagery, which is described by the series’ botanic manipulations.
